Fire damages trailer, no injuries reported
Story from the New Castle News on 2/16/2010.

Four fire departments responded to a trailer fire last night in North Beaver Township.

The Lawrence County 911 Center reported that North Beaver firefighters were summoned at 10:22 p.m. to the trailer at 1025 State Line Road, near West Poland Road.

They were on the scene until around 1:30 a.m.

According to North Beaver Township Fire Chief Paul E. Henry, the trailer was not occupied and none of the firefighters sustained injuries.

He did not have the name of the owner, a man believed to be from New Middletown, Ohio.

The fire destroyed about two-thirds of the trailer, Henry estimated. The front, consisting of two bedrooms and a bath, just had heat and smoke damage, he said, but the living room, kitchen and back bedroom “were pretty well burnt.”

The chief was expecting to be contacted by the state police fire marshal today to determine a cause.

Henry said heavy unplowed snow hampered the firefighters’ efforts.

“Their driveway was not plowed. We had to use the parking lot and driveway of the Baptist church on State Line Road, to access the fire.”

Henry estimated the snow at 15 or 18 inches-deep all around the trailer.

“It was knee-deep when we were walking through the yard.

“Add to that an extra 150 foot to each of our hose lines to get (water) to the fire, because of the deep snow.

“It was extremely difficult.”

In addition to North Beaver, Henry said other fire departments responding included, Bessemer, Enon Valley and Springfield Township, Ohio.
