Extra-duty pay approved for Springfield Township firefighters

NEW SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Township trustees have agreed to pay firefighters special-circumstances pay of $8 per hour and $9 for fire officers.

Currently, firefighters are paid $10 per call and officers $12.

The special circumstances pay will be in effect in situations where firefighters must stay on a call for a long period of time, such as for a gas leak, officials said.
