Bristol moving on fire station
Story By BOB COUPLAND in the Tribune Chronicle on 1/25/2010.

BRISTOL - Trustees entered into a contract Saturday with a survey firm to assess land where the township wants to build a new fire station.

Trustee Vice Chairman Ramon French said the study by Lynn, Kittinger and Noble Inc. of Warren will look at the ground, soil, sewage, and other aspects of the 25-acre property located west of the Evergreen Cemetery.

The department provides fire protection and paramedic service.

The township was informed it will receive $2.2 million in Federal Emergency Management Agen-cy funding for a new fire station to replace the current building near the township center. French said the assessment will be paid for with the FEMA money.

Baker, Bednar and Associates are the project architects and will be seeking bids for the project in mid-February, according to French. Plans are to begin construction in the spring.

Trustee Chairman Andrew Holko said the timeline for the project depends on the results of the environmental assessment, which he believes will show the property is ideal for the building.

Holko said discussion at the meeting also included having a water supply for the fire suppression system for the station. Plans are to build a quarter-acre to one-acre pond on the property for the system that can also be used as a detention pond or for firefighter training.

Fire vehicles will also be able to fill up tankers with water from the pond, he said.
