Help Resizing Pictures
« on: August 25, 2009, 02:33:05 PM »
Hello I took some great pictures on my Nikon Coolpix L4 digital camera.  The problem I am having is that the pictures range from 800kb to 1000kb and the forum only allows 200kb pictures.  I fear that if I resize the pictures, they will be too small and wont have any detail.  How do I resize the pictures and keep the quality?

Please Help.

I'm in a similar problem. Since the pictures I've hosted through photobucket aren't allowed anymore for whatever reason, I still need to re-size them yet again. I use Irfanview software, it's free and easy to use. Also there's Flickr that has an edit option to re-size photos.

If you look in the FAQ section of the forums, there are several different methods of resizing your images. Try FAQ 003d, it might be the easiest. http://www.youngstownfire.com/forums/index.php/topic,8153.0.html

I use a program called PhotoWatermark Professional 7. It will resize a whole folder of images and is great for watermarking pics. It's a nice program but not a free program.

I tried the Infanview software and changed the pixels from 2200x1800 to 640x600 and the picture is still 922kb.   Any suggestions?

If you have a picture view (usually comes standard with your computer), just crop them.  That's what I do.

OK, I have a problem.  I recently posted two old photos of rigs that F'ville used to run, including a picture of a rig I've been asking about.  The more I looked at them, the more disgusted I was with how much I had to crop them to get them under 250KB.  I downloaded a photo resizing program but it asks how many pixels I want.  I know as much about pixels and the like as I know about nuclear science.  How many pixels could I have and still keep it below 250KB?

If you have "MS Office Picture Manager" in your package (?), Open the photo with that, and there should be a menu (on the right) to RESIZE.  At the top, reduce to Large document.  See if this works.

Thanks.  I got it to work.  Photos will be up shortly.  Or rather now.  :D

To anyone else having problems, when you try and save a image as a JPG, it might ask you about compression. Choose 5 or 6 for the compression. 10 is uncompressed and will result in a larger final file size. 5 or 6 compresses the image making the file size smaller. Go too far and the photo looks crappy.
