FAQ 005 - Very Low Bandwidth Version of this Forum...
« on: November 20, 2008, 08:46:14 PM »
Having a blackberry around can be dangerous for me. So much you can do and so little time to really get into revamping sites for it.

I found a cool feature of this forum though. you can access a mobile of very low bandwith version of all the posts here by going to
http://www.youngstownfire.com/forums/index.php?imode

You can also try these alternate low bandwidth versions of this site without any graphic bells and whistles:
http://www.youngstownfire.com/forums/index.php?wap
http://www.youngstownfire.com/forums/index.php?wap2

The cool thing, pages load super fast. Good for Mobile Phones, Crackberries and Dial Up
Bad news, no pics load in the posts. It's just the text.

I'm going to keep looking for a lower bandwidth version which allows for the photos to load. I'll post if I figure out if it's able to be done or not.

I was able to get some of the images in the http://www.youngstownfire.com/forums/index.php?imode version of this site.

I'm going to see if there is a way to pull in small versions of the attachments in the low bandwidth site.

Attachments are now viewable in the imode version of this site. Use the
http://www.youngstownfire.com/forums/index.php?imode link.

It would also be useful for those of you who have low bandwidth connections. This doesn't shrink the file size of the attachments so those may still cause a slow loadtime but there may be a way to tweek that.

I'll let everyone know if I find anything else cool out. For now, I'm going to edit the colors of the imode to make them black and red :)
