Yesterday was the first really nice day of spring around here. It just so happens I had scheduled an apointment with one of my customers on this day as well. OK I admit it I watched the weather some and planned it like this. Trust me alot of prayers were said, since we all know how good the forecasters are!
Anyway's after a two hour ride, we arrivd in Elkton, MI home of the Oliver Township Fire Department, and Elkton Ambulance Service. We did our work on the ambulance and then we were able to arrange for one of the FF's to come over and pull out all their apparatus.
Oliver Township Fire runs out of this one station in the Village of Elkton, there are 21 part paid members. They cover an area of 64 square miles, with a population base of 2,100. The area is mostly rural with a Tower Automotives plant, Grain Mill, Wind Mill Farm (
32 units - 400' tall - Supplies power to 15,000 homes
), and Fertilizer plant. There is a company who is looking at building a massive ethanol and bio-diesel plant west of town as well.
They do not have a ladder, which I found a little odd for a department that I would think has the need for a aerial device. I suppose part of the thinking may be that if a ladder is needed Bad Axe is only 10 miles away.

Oliver Twp Fire - Elkton, MI
#-569
Built: 3-14-90
Spartan S#1000EE214
Body Builder: Unknown 20' Walk In
This truck was purchased used from Deep South Fire Apparatus. The members think it came from MS, and it was previously painted red. But unfourtanetly I could not find a builders tag or where it came from.

This unit is provided to the department by the state DNR. With the condition that it can be called for by the DNR. Usually these rigs are red or yellow. This is one of the few that I know of that are not red or yellow.
