Chelsea Area Fire Authority
« on: June 03, 2007, 02:16:03 PM »
The Chelsea Area Fire Authority covers approximatley 110 square miles, with approximatley 20,000 residents.  They protect the city of Chelsea, and Townships of Dexter, Lima, Lyndon, and Sylvan.  Originally organized as the Chelsea Fire Department in 1888 they reorganized as the Chelsea Fire Authority in 1999.  They operate out of one station located in the city of Chelsea built in 1963.

In the photo with the tanker you can see their number one concern as far as fire is concerned.  That's the Jiffy mix plant & silos.  Chelsea is the home of Jiffy mixes.  They also have a railroad main line that runs behind the station.

No. 2
1942 Chevy 1 Ton/American
Serial #336

This is one of the second motorized fire truck Chelsea owned.  The other one is preserved by a former Chief I was told.  They are in the process of restoring it to running order.  The one item they are missing is the rear American tail board corner pieces.  If anyone knows where thay can pick those up let me know so I can let them know.

BTW:Anyone have PICS of this unit during it's fire fighting life?

Finally the 1963 Built station.  The tower & heavy rescue were out for repairs, so perhaps I'll get them next time.
