Spare Engine Re-numbering
« on: March 23, 2007, 11:20:37 AM »
I noticed in the photos of recent fires the spare engine are being re-numbered...  I saw old E9 was now E4 and the old squrt is now E5.  Do we have an updated list and can we get pics of these rigs on the forum?  I really like to see actual engine #'s on the rigs now.  It is better than seeing SE-1, SE-2, and SE-3.

Here are Engines 4 and 5 in their new renumbering scheme.

Engine 4 was taken by Dean DeMain and Engine 5 by Greg Ricker.

Here is a breakdown of the apparatus relocations:

Engine 2 new truck | ExE2 to Sta 9 | ExE9 to 15 | Ex15 to E4
Engine 7 new truck | ExE7 to Sta 3 | ExE3 (telesqurt) Boom removed E5
E6 and 12 same ol same ol
Spare 1 now E8

Mack MC (Spare 2) now scrapped
Mack CF now scrapped

However, Engine 15 is using E5 while their 'new' is getting some work done to it.

I'll be updating the photos on the station and apparatus pages of youngstownfire.com when the weather gets nicer.

I like the way they are doing it now... Our spare rigs are Engine 4 & Engine 5 in Lakewood.  We only have the 3 houses, but I like it better than "Reserve Engine 1" or "Spare Engine 1".  Cleveland gives all of their spare rigs an "X" number.  I know for sure that Station 43 on Rocky River Drive has their Pierce rehab telesqurt as Engine 43 and a 90's Simon-Duplex telesqurt as "X-43".

Thats how we number our spare rigs at Jackson. Engine 1 and Engine 6 are spares. Medic 6 is the Spare squad and Rescue 2 is the spare rescue truck

At the risk of error on my part I am going to say that the info regarding Eng 15s rig may be incorrect. i was told that Ex-9 went to 15 BUT i have NOT confirmed it. To the contrary; i think Ex-9 IS spare 4 coz i saw it yesterday during a changeover with what must have been 12. Anybody care to comment?
If so, then 15 still has the truck it had or will have it. i think ex-3 former tsqt belongs at 15 and 15 to spare so that the two 1987s are BOTH spares and the 1989 a front-line decent pumper.

next year was to have been the end of the total replacement apparatus plan of 1998- a 10 year plan--but NOT-still need two more trucks--a quint or engine and a tower ladder.

================================================
The previous data i had received concerning reassigned apparatus has proven to be slightly INACCURATE. Whilst i was told that EX-9 1987 Dash painted white over red was then reassigned Eng 15 that is simply incorrect. Please NOTE: Today both 1987 rigs were in the lot next to the shop. The all-red 1987 Dash is Eng 15; the white over red 1987 Dash is Eng 4 spare-formerly Eng 9. The former Eng 2 2002 Custom Contender is comfortably housed at old 9 house on Midlothian. The area that is earmarked for a new 9 House at the park on Detroit is a beautiful sedate quiet place with LOTS of acerage for a fine new station. I have serious doubts that the last two units needing replacement will be as originally planned; namely, a quint for 3 and a tower for 24. The tower will eventually happen but not anytime soon as of the present. The quint; well, while anything is possible my gut says dont bet on it. Plan to see a regular pumper in say a few years and probabaly to a high run locale and then the usual shifting of hand-me-downs till 15 gets the oldest and worst.
