What brand of apparatus is currently being purchased by departments in The Valley? The YFD is buying Pierce rigs now, but what about the other areas?
I would imagine that Sutphen sells a rig or two up there, but who else is making deliveries these days? Does the former Ohio powerhouse Seagrave sell rigs up that way?

Pierce and Sutphen sell the most up here with a splash of E-ONE Mostly Ladders (Beaver Twp, CanfieldCity, and the City of Warren have Newer E-ONE ladders.).

pierce is without competition here in mahoning valley. e-one has done well in warren with 4 units from 1992-97....1 engine, 1 ladder tower, 1 rescue and 1 squad-engine...also canfield and girard and campbell have various e-ones...mcdonald has a very nice kme...seagrve is not well-represented here...sutphen has had several ladder placements. no alf that i am aware of per se and not much else.....i imagine pierce will continue to have the lion's share and i suspect e-one will continue in a national decline...look at its web site and you will see the same tired "new deliveries" that have been there since time immemorial ...assumimg you live sufficiently long to download these...they are painfully slow....pierce has kept up an updated new delivery section as has alf.

With some rumors swirling about Finley's coming demise, what does that mean for apparatus sales in the area?

Those rumors about finley are evidently untrue...they intend to stay in business according to recent information. yfd4

i don't know what their exact runs are. but if you go to struthersfire.com to the Run Book section it give a run down of each shifts calls. might not be accurate for this year but it may give you an idea. i think i'm going to have to see who takes care of the website. maybe struthersboy will have to take over!!

I was curious to know because the apparatus seems substantial so I imagine it is used sufficiently to require class a pumpers with all of the latest ammenities....yfd4

true you have a point there yfd4, but i think they are buying these new trucks because parts were getting scarce for the old Mack fire trucks they had. Plus those things were pretty darn slow when getting to a fire--struthersboy

i forgot to add this also yfd4, when Struthers decided to get these new trucks they went to a fire-rescue operation, where before i think we were just a fire department. i guess thats why they bought these with all the fixings---peace struthersboy

New fire trucks have arrived
By VIRGINIA McKENZIE, Review Staff Writer
LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP - Liverpool Township's eagerly awaited fire trucks arrived Sunday. "We've been waiting for these trucks a long time," said township trustee Steve Betteridge.
The fire trucks cost $178,00 each and came completely ready to go.
According to Fire Chief Mike Bahen, the two freight liner E-1 fire trucks are also known as 1250s. Equipped with Mercedes-Benz diesel engines, the fire trucks have a 1250 gpm pump, and can hold 1250 gallons of water. The 1250 gallons of water can be dispatched in under 60 seconds.
The new fire trucks replace two outdated 1982 GMC trucks. Whereas the new trucks are classified as pumper-tankers, the old trucks were only tankers. Furthermore, the new trucks are equipped with foam in addition to water.
According to Bahen, foam cuts back on the use of water and the incidence of rekindles. Foam is also less likely to damage property than water. "We've never had foam before, and we've already used it twice," said Bahen.
Bahen points out that the new trucks may potentially reduce the fire department's ISO rating. An ISO rating refers to an insurance rating. Currently, Liverpool Township rates a six for areas with a hydrant, and nine for areas without a hydrant.
The new three-man cab freight liners join a fleet consisting of one rescue unit, a one-ton brush truck, two chief cars, one lightening unit, and two five-man cab freight liners.
Bahen said, "Now, we are in good shape."
