Fire destroys village home
By LUCILLE HUSTON/Review Staff Writer
WELLSVILLE - A Center Street duplex was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.
Firemen fought the blaze at 1213-1213 1/2 Center Street for about six hours.
The downstairs apartment was occupied by Ricky Rutan. Glenn Hall and and Terry Call, cousins, rented the upstairs apartment. The home is owned by Charles France of Clover Street.
Firemen received a call to the house, which is visible from the fire station, at 10:42 p.m.
Fire Chief Bill Smith says the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The home is still standing, but the inside is gutted.
Fourteen village firemen were on duty during the early morning house. Twelve were at the fire scene with two at the station. Firemen from LaCroft and Dixonville stations in Liverpool Township also were at the scene giving assistance.
Irondale firemen were standing by.
Chief Smith said the home had forced-air heat with a gas furnace. He was uncertain where the tenants had gone Monday after the fire. The American Red Cross has been contacted for assistance.
France told the department he had insurance coverage on the house which is valued at some $37,000 by the Columbiana County Auditor's Office.
