A nice place for a new Station 9....
« on: January 02, 2006, 01:24:47 PM »
Good afternoon everyone,
As I was home from work this past week, I noticed that the New Affair Lounge on Midlothian was up for sale.  And I remember there being info on the website about possibly a new Station 9 that might appear on the otherside of the freeway.  Does anyone else think this would be a great place for the station, buy up the 2 buildings (New Affair and the building next to it) and build a nice shiny new station??  It has easy access to the freeway and everything.  What does everyone else think??  Peace out - Struthersboy :D

Sounds like a good idea to me!  An added bonus there is already a pole in the New Affair! LOL

A new station 9 needs to be placed more near South Ave. Pulling out at the New Affair area would be bad. It is tough enough to pull out where 9's is at now.  There is also a cement divider under the 680 bridge that makes it a bugger to try to move traffic out of the way. Somewhere near South Ave. would also help the respoonse time in helping 2's out. Look where the majority of the runs are and how long 2's is at a working fire alone before 9's can get there.

a new southeast station should continue the consolidation efforts begun by odeo cologne when he combined 8 and 13 into new no2 and 10 and 5 into new no 3. similarly since those consolidations have remained a new consolidation should be old 9 and old 14 to be located at shirley rd and the freeway ramp near cooper ave one exit north of the midlothian exit on 680. this location is ideal. it allows the new unit no4 to access all of downtown via 680. all of the east side via the center st bridge. all of the southeast side via the 680 south to midlothian exit or str8 down shirley rd to midlothian. all of south av via the parallel streets to cooper av. also indianola is near this proposed new station location and so the new engine 4 can travel over indianola as backup for station 2 calls. personally the ISO requirements of an engine every 1.5 miles of built-up area are better met at cooper av and shirley rd and 680 south ramp vicinity than anywhere on midlothian.
