Cardinal Joint Fire District (Canfield)

Hey everyone, I'm a probie with the Cardinal Joint Fire District (Canfield). Here is some quick info about our department. We run 2 stations and three pieces of front line apparatus at each.
Station 1
Squad 1 E-One Rescue Pumper (commercial chassis)
Ladder 1 E-One 95' Platform
Engine 1 FMC Pumper
Also, the Chief and Deputy Chief have their offices and respond from here.
Station 2
Squad 2 E-One Rescue Pumper (commercial chassis)
Engine 2 E-One Rescue Pumper
Engine 4 E-One Pumper
These Stations are currently staffed from 7am-11pm by two firefighters, and respond to all EMS calls,(our department runs ALS and BLS), car accidents and other non-major emergenices. Squad 1 and Squad 2 are the duty trucks, however Engine 2 is currently being used at Station 2 as the duty truck. For a fire alarm or reported structure fire members respond to the station and from there to the call, all members are part time/paid on call. Any questiosn please let me know and i'll do my best to answer.

Isn't the high school mascot the cardinal? I think it was. So you had the Canfield Cardinals and when the Village and Township merged fire protection, they named it the Cardinal Joint Fire District. Anyone have other thoughts?

hey everyone,
Before we were the Cardinal Joint Fire District it was just the Canfield Fire Deparment (city). Station 1 just covered the runs in the township. The District was formed in 1990 when Station 2 opened, so the city and township were covered with their own stations under the same department. (Most of the township is still in station 1's district though). The Cardinal was chosen (as far as I know, I could be wrong) due to the fact that the Cardinal is the local school mascott. Any other questions lemme know and i'll be happy to answer!

One other thing I'm curious about. do you have any information or photos of apparatus that served Canfield in the past? (The older the better). Those always look good on a web site too!

This is just an update on what is currently posted on this message board regarding Cardinal Joint Fire District / Canfield Fire Deprtament.
As of November 2002, CJFD now has 3 full-time Firefighter/Paramedics. Each one works a 24-hour shift at Station #1, every 3rd day (the usual FF schedule). 1 Part-time Fire/Medic, Fire/EMT, or Fire/First Responder works along with the full-timer at Station 1 and then 2 part-timers work at Station 2 from 08:00-23:00. They are providing full Paramedic service, which is a great benefit to the people of Canfield City and Township!!!!!!

You folks are right .... the Canfield Mascot is the Cardinal .. and thus is the name of the joint fire district. Station 2 was built due to the construction of new developments to the East of the city towards Boardman .. the area occupied by Station 2 was woods until about 15 years ago ..... Good foresight due to the current developments along 224 towards Boardman ....

Here is an update on Cardinal Joint Fire District (Canfield Fire Department). There have been some changes since the last post on CFD. Canfield Fire now has 3 additional full time Firefighter/Paramedics working, for a total of 6 (plus the 2 Chiefs). The staffing works like this. Each 24-hour day, there is a full time FF/Medic working at Station 1 and another full time FF/Medic working at Station 2. Then, part time Firefighter/FRs or EMTs/Medics are scheduled to work along side the full time guys.
Also Canfield has a new truck from E-One being built at this time. I am unsure exactly what type it is, but I have heard it is going to be a smaller scale version of their new Engine 2 out at Station 2.
CFD also has a new repeater channel. They still use the old channel, but also use the new one. It is 460.4625
And if anyone is curious, there are some new emblems on ALL of the trucks. It is a maltese cross with "F24 Michael Hartzell" in the middle. "YPD" and "CJFD" are on the outer edges. They really look cool.

Any chance of getting a photo of the logo on the doors? I think it would be neat to see.

Did they also use the memorial sticker as a helment decal? Since my company suffered a LODD at the begining of this year all members received a memorial decal for their helments and we also did memorial for decal for each piece of apparatus.

In response to WEFR15: Yes, the memorial stickers for Mike Hartzell are on each of the Canfield firefighters helmets.

The Cardinal Joint Fire District is now using their new radio freq. for responding units. It is 460.4625. They are still using the VHF 154.400 for paging.
