This is a repost of photo # 36 B. It is the left side of Engine # 12,1933 Seagrave,1000 GPM.

Although it is darker you should be able to clearly see the 12 on the hood.

Here is No.3 "Mary Ann" as she looked leaving the factory. This unit was built for NYFD in 1933 and was rejected. Youngstown took delivery in 1937. Sorry for the poor quality of the photo, but the original that I have is no better.

Regarding no12's seagrave: in 1933 yfd had obtained rigs from seagrave for no2.no6 and ladder 3: my recollection of articles in the vindicator are that the no12 rig was obtained afterwards possibly having become available from some other intended destination and was more along 1934 when obtained. I may be entirely in error but thats what I vaguely recall from my research back around the year 2000A.D.

Y.F.D. Station No.2,1912 or 1913 Robinson piston pumper.

No2's Robinson was a 1912 and was delivered to Mill Creek Park along with Warren FD's 1912 No1 pump--there is anarticle in the Vindicator--so the no2 yfd robinson was in fact the very first robinson delivered among the many that followed thru 1912 and 1913.

Y.F.D. Station No.3,corner of Thomas(Arlington) & Foster,1911 or 1912 Knox Chemical Hose Car.

L to R: Ed Thomas,Sweeney,Teddy (the dog ),Lodwick and McDonough
The only deliveries prior to 1912 were the Dolly 9 1910 Seagrave and the no8 Webb 1909 so the date for the Knox can not be 1911.The decision to motorize the entire fleet was in 1912 and was paid for by floating bonds and was the first instance where an entire dept would go motorized at least in all of Ohio and maybe further away.

Y.F.D. Station No.2,1912 or 1913 Robinson piston pumper.
There was some sort of large event at Mill Creek Park Oct 1912 for the fire services of Ohio--something of a meeting of Ohio Fire Chiefs and the 2 rigs that Robinson showed were the no2 Robinson for yfd and the no1 Robinson for Warren Fd.

Copied from the files of American La France in 1975.
1917 American La France Type 12 Triple Combination,Register No.1529,Neg.No.3171,shipped on May 12,1917. This was the first A.L.F. that Youngstown had.The number on the hood appears to be 12.
Station No.12 was not built until 1931--- so why the No.12 on the engine and where wasit's first assigned quarters???
No11's original 1914 Nott Hose & Chemical truck wasnt cut out for the steep hills of the poland Av district that it was assigned to and so the rig did some out-of-service time and Dolly 9 was at station 11 and the authorities authorized the purchase of the 1917 ALF for sta 11 not no12.

Y.F.D. copy of an American LaFrance photo.Registered No.3306 dates the truck to 1921.Double row of louvers on the hood indicate a factory rebuild in the late '20s.
Truck Co.No.2 was housed in old No.5 Station.
I do not believe that No2 truck went to No5 station till 1932 when the no1 station was closed. Up till that time: from 1921 till 1932 Truck no2 was at No7 station and moved to no5 station so that truck no4 from the no1 station could go to station 7 when the no1 station closed in 1932. The No2 truck was a city service aerial whereas the No4 truck was an 1927 Alf 65ft straight frame aerial ladder truck with type 31 cab.

Youngstown Fire Department Engine #5,1948 Mack,1000 Gpm.

no5 was a 1948 L series open cab 750 gpm
no4 was similar except it was 1000 gpm since it responded to downtown first-due because in 1948 there was still NO station downtown so no4 was speced out with a more powerful pump than no5
