FAQ 002 - Text Tricks
« on: March 19, 2003, 09:06:20 PM »
When you post a new topic, there are some basic commands you can do to the text. Let's look at them in a little detail shall we?

First three are very simple. "B", "I", and "U" are buttons to Bold text, italicize text and underline text respectively.  To use them just click on either of the three buttons or any combination of two or all three and the code to do that feature will appear. Enter the text and either click the "B", the "I" or the "U" a second time or click on the close tags link when finished.

This is bold   This is italics   This is underlined

Next is the quote button. Using this button will but whatever text is between the quote tags in a box in your post.

Quote
See. This is a quote using the quote tags.

Code prints any characters between this set of tags as is. Any attempt to use any of the other tags suck as bold, italics or underline will only show the bracket-b-bracket characters and not bold like it was intended.

Code: [Select]
This is code. Normally the bold command would show bold but here [b] it only shows the straight characters [/b]

List...Use this if you want to make a list of items

    Apples
    Peaches
    Pumpkin Pie

List=... Makes an ordered list ( I can't get this one to work :) )

[list=]Apples[/list][list=]Peaches[/list][list=]Pumpkin pie[/list]

The Image tag lets you include an image in your post rather than as an attachement. This is very useful for attaching a photo on another website into a post for display purposes. The actual photo doesn't reside on this board. For example, the image below was taken from the firehouse.com website...

This was done using
Code: [Select]
[img]http://www.firehouse.com/2000/03topA.gif[/img]

The URL tag allows you to add a Web address to the post. Most of the times, a web address will automatically become a clickable link but if you experience problems use the IMG tag to force the boards to show it as a link.

The last two commands Font color and Font size change the color of the font and the size of the font respectively.

Now go experiment :)
