Looking to identify a hose cart mfg
«

I am looking at a hose reel cart and can not place the mfg. Can some one help.
The part that spurred my interest is the heart shapes on the end of the reel. I thought it may be Elkhart brass but did not know.
The wheels are wood split rims with what appears to be metal spokes. Also there is not a bell, which may mean it is an industrial fire brigade piece.
Any info is appriciated.

I too thought of Elkhart as soon as I saw the ends of the hose reel however I can not say who the manufacturer was. The wooden wheels seem to have been made by a wheel manufacturer who sold to different companies. My Wirt & Knox cart has this same type of wheel. I believe that the spokes are also made of wood. The different segments of the fellows are joined like these are. I would not call these "split rim" wheels though.
While I can not identify the manufacturer I would agree that it was made for industurial use because of its size and lack of roller bearings in the wheels. If that is a forged frame, with those wheels and the cast ends of the reel I would guess it was made around 1900.
It has a unique handle on the tongue. I cannot remember seeing that before.
