Although Gamewell is known for fire alarm boxes, many cities operated signal systems that were used by police patrol officers. The picture shows a typical Gamewell Police Call Box.
The dial setting allowed the officer to make specific requests (send an ambulance, etc.).
The complete box.

This Gamewell item was listed on eBay. It was described as an auxilliary police call box. Can anyone provide additional information as to the function of this box?

You know who still has the Police Call Boxes still in service??? Believe it or not, the Alcoa plant in Cleveland still has them in service ..... I have never seen one used, but I assume they are connected to the Guard Gate at Gate 5 .. which is the security office for Alcoa.
Its the blue Gamewell boxes ...............

Yes the Gamewell auxilliary police call box pictured in the Oak Case with glass that was being sold on Ebay is indeed the interior box but that case is a homemade project. I have two of the Gamewell auxilliary police call
boxes from Gamewell I will post the PICS for them. The first ones were made in New York in the late 1800's and the design proved popular and carried over to New England. They were replaced when phones were a better and faster option.

This Gamewell call box stood at 7th and Vine Streets in downtown Cincinnati through the 1990's.

Beleive it or not abot two years ago I got a call that a Gamewell Wagon Call Box was still up in the City of oungstown. It has been several years since the "Signal Crew" dismantled the Gamewell Police and Fire Systems for the City. I went to the location and found it still there. I have checked on it every year since and beleive it or not is was still there as of Saturday December 27, 2004. I will take a photo and post it. The box has long been out of service but it still remains property of the City of Youngstown.
